The Avon Police Department is accepting lateral transfers…NO TEST REQUIRED! If you value a positive work environment, a supportive community, technology and training, then this is the place for you!

Community Service Officers (CSO's) assist regular officers in many areas of the department by attending to less-urgent issues that would otherwise keep officers from the important job of law enforcement. A CSO wears a uniform and drives a marked police vehicle, but is not a commissioned peace officer.
Assignments of CSO's will usually be to augment the Patrol Division. Some examples of job responsibilities are:
- Automobile and house lockouts
- Performs house watches
- Animal complaints in the absence of or in assistance to an Avon Police Officer or other Animal Control Officer
- Assists disabled motorists (e.g., buddy bump disabled vehicles when appropriate, transports disabled motorists and pedestrians to safe locations, etc.)
- Provides first responder assistance such as First Aid and CPR
- Recovers and transports lost property, fills out forms, etc.
- Assists officers with juvenile complaints
- Assists the elderly with non-emergency matters
- Picks up prisoner meals and medications in the absence of or in assistance to an Avon Police Officer
- Traffic Control
Qualifications
Completion of secondary education (high school diploma or GED equivalent); must meet any legally established age limitations; must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy; proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, and Word and proficiency in police department software systems or ability to become proficient within six (6) months of employment; must successfully pass a background check (no felony convictions); must satisfactorily complete all medical, physical, agility, and/or psychological examinations required by the City.
Dispatchers are often the first point of contact between the community and the Police Department. Some of their job duties include answering phones, including 911 emergency calls, entering information into computer systems, dispatch calls for service and communicate with patrol officers via radio, process paperwork for courts and assist residents that come into the Police Department for assistance.
POLICE DISPATCHER
Job Requirements:
Age: Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
Education: High School Graduate/GED (Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent)
Ohio Driver’s License
Required Hiring Process:
Testing and Receiving Applications: Testing currently closed.
Interviews: Candidates with passing scores will be interviewed by members of the Avon Police Department command staff during the process.
Background:
A complete and thorough background investigation will be completed by members of the investigative division of the Avon Police Department.
Salary: Starting salary is between $23.80 – $29.75 per hour.

School Resource Officer (SRO)
Goals and objectives are designed to develop and enhance rapport between students, families, police officers, school administrators, and the community in order to promote overall student achievement and success.
Some of the SRO responsibilities include:
1. Promoting a safe learning environment for all students and adults who enter the building
2. Helping reduce potential harm related to incidents of school violence
3. Helping reduce the negative impacts of alcohol, drug, and prescription drug abuse
4. Fostering a positive school climate based on respect for all students and adults in the school
5. Collaborating with behavioral health and other care providers in the community for student and family referral
6. Conducting investigations for school-related incidents
