IMPORTANT 2020 POOL INFORMATION

Avon Aquatic Facility — 05/29/20 Pool Opening Day
POSTPONED

  • Pool activities will resume as determined by government and health department guidance provided in early June.
  • This website will be regularly updated with information on Opening Day, revised daily swim schedules, programming status & pricing when that information is made available.
  • Updated information on swim pass credits and/or refunds will be provided once the opening date is determined.
  • Pool operations & rules may be modified to recognize new social distancing and hygiene standards.
  • Available staffing levels and facility preparations will most likely impact Pool hours during the Summer.  We anticipate that daily hours of operation may be adjusted as compared to previous seasons.
  • We fully expect to open in 2020!  We’re just unsure of the exact opening date at this point.  We’re prioritizing the importance of safe practices and balancing that with the importance of recreation in everyone’s lives. We look forward to see you this Summer, enjoying a fun, safe and relaxing visit to the Pool!

Thank you for your patience and support!!

Frequently Asked QUESTIONS

WHEN WILL THE POOL OPEN?

The Pool opens 5/29/20!!  So unplug from the Internet, c’mon down and take the plunge!  (And don’t forget your sunscreen!)

HOW MUCH ARE POOL PASSES?

We’re celebrating our 5th Anniversary in 2020 with special Anniversary Discounts on Season Passes!  Pricing for the 2020 season can be found by clicking HERE.

IS THE POOL ADA COMPLIANT?

You bet it is!  Easy access abounds, from the convenient step entries, lifts and zero-depth ramp at both pools to the main entrance and changing rooms!

ARE THERE CHANGING ROOMS?

We sure do, because change is good!  In addition to the main Men’s & Women’s changing rooms, there are 5 Family changing rooms and even privacy stalls in the locker rooms!  There are also plenty of storage lockers to secure your valuables.

ARE THERE LIFEGUARDS?

Because your safety is our main concern, we wouldn’t have it any other way!  You’ll find 14 Red Cross certified lifeguards are stationed throughout the facility, so if you hear a loud voice coming from a megaphone nearby, you’d better take heed!

HOW HIGH IS THE HIGH DIVE?

The Competition Pool features twin one-meter diving boards, which (and I’m sure you’ll agree with us here) greatly decreases the intense sting from that high-altitude belly flop.

WHAT IS THE HEIGHT REQUIREMENT FOR THE WATER SLIDES?

For the main slides and the “water walk ” activity area, you must be at least 48″ tall because the water depth there is 42″.  There are other fun slides (like the family slide and the play structure) that are in shallow water and can be used by children under 48″ tall.

WILL SWIMMING LESSONS BE OFFERED THIS YEAR?

Yep!  Lessons will be held right here at the Aquatic Facility and coordinated through our special partnership with the French Creek YMCA.  CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS!

WILL YOU HAVE A TIME PERIOD FOR ONLY PEOPLE 18+ TO SWIM?

The facility is made up of two venues; The 50-meter pool has plenty of space for lap swimming and is very conducive to adult usage particularly on weekend mornings before noon, when diving boards open. Designations for adults to enjoy a separation from children and exclusive access to sections of the 50m pool, particularly during the above mentioned time, will be employed.  Adults will have access to the pool during rest periods.

We also host a weekend Adult Swim session, INFO HERE.

WILL THERE BE JOBS AVAILABLE FOR KIDS UNDER 17? LIKE HELPING OUT AT THE CONCESSION?

Yes!  There are great job opportunities for those under 17:  Lifeguards and pool technicians may be 15.  Concession workers will be hired by our concession vendor.  Job information and applications are on the city website at www.cityofavon.com.  Lifeguard training info is HERE.

CAN I RESERVE THE POOL FOR PRIVATE PARTIES?

Party on in 2020!  Click HERE for info on hosting your birthday bash at the Pool!

WHAT’S THE AVON EAGLE SWIM CLUB?

The Avon Eagle Swim Club starts practicing the first week school lets out!  You can cheer them on by following this link:

AVON EAGLE SWIM CLUB INFO

WHAT’S THE COST OF THE AQUATIC FACILITY?

The two pools, grounds and buildings cost roughly $5 million.  Sponsorship revenue is being raised to offset a portion of those costs, maintain low pass rates, and periodically add fun features.  The site preparation (road, infrastructure, etc.) for the parks development was an additional $2.1 million.

WHEN CAN I BUY A SEASON PASS?

2020 season passes are on sale NOW!  What are you waiting for??  Click HERE for pass pricing!

HOW WILL GUEST PASSES WORK FOR GUESTS OF RESIDENTS WITH SEASON PASSES?

Non-resident guests must accompany an Avon resident or a non-resident employee of an Avon business to gain admittance. A daily guest fee applies. Residents may choose to either purchase a season pass or pay a daily admission.

CAN I BUY A SEASON PASS OR DAILY ADMISSION PASS IF I LIVE IN ANOTHER CITY BUT WORK IN AVON?

For a non-resident to purchase a pass they must work in the city of Avon and pay the city income tax. All Avon residents are eligible to purchase season passes.

WHAT WILL THE AGE REQUIREMENT BE FOR A LIFEGUARD?

To become a Red Cross certified lifeguard you must be 15 years old. That is also the age to be eligible to work as a lifeguard at the Avon Pool. Lifeguard classes are being offered in June and July at the French Creek YMCA. Avon Pool lifeguards earn between $10-$13 per hour, based on experience and additional certifications.  All lifeguards must be Red Cross certified.

WHEN ARE THE LAP LANES AVAILABLE/

With its 4-5 short course lanes available during open swim hours, the Pool is great for lap swimmers!  The exception is when the 50m pool is closed for a swim meet.  Additional weekday lap swim time is available during the mornings prior to public swim sessions.  This includes 50m long course opportunities at 6:30 a.m. in June and July.  Check the schedule for more information.  master swimmers utilize some lanes Monday and Wednesday evenings, and adults are invited to join this coached session.  Keep an eye on our “Events” page for more information.

DOES THE POOL HAVE REST PERIODS?

Yep, starting at 1:00 p.m. weekdays, and noon on weekends.  Rest periods last 15 minutes and take place at the top of every hour.  Adults 18 and older may swim at this time.  Activity features will be closed, though diving boards will remain open.  (It’s a great time to collect your kids and take a much-needed bathroom break!)

WHAT AGE CAN KIDS VISIT WITHOUT A PARENT?

All children under the age of 9 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult (age 15 or older).

IS THERE A SWIM SKILL OR AGE REQUIREMENT TO USE THE DIVING BOARD OR SWIM IN THE DEEP END?

Swimming ability is required to be in water over shoulder depth.  Persons using life jackets are required to remain in the shallow water.  A swim skill test (15-20 yards) is offered at the beginning of rest periods.  Children age 13 and younger must pass this test to swim in deep water or use the diving boards.  A wrist band designates successful completion of the skills test and must be worn for guards to see.

ARE FLOATING DEVICES ALLOWED AT THE POOL?

Please refer to the Pool Rules page for info on floats, balls, face masks and snorkels and swim goggles.  Click HERE.

CAN WE USE A BALL IN THE POOL?

The shallow end of the 50m pool is set up for ball playing.  This area features water basketball and even water volleyball at designated times during the Summer.  The use of “soft foam” balls, beach balls or our water basketball/volleyballs are restricted to this area.  We ask patrons not to use our balls in the Activity pool area.  Playing catch in the far corner of the grass area may also be permitted.  Please, no ball playing, shooting baskets or dribbling on the deck.

IS THE ACTIVITY POOL OPEN DURING SWIM MEETS?

The beauty of the Avon Pool is that it was designed to allow open swim during competitive meets.  The Competition Pool (including the diving boards) will close in advance of a swim meet for set-up, and will be closed to the public during the meet.  However, the Activity Pool, play features and sprayground will remain open to the public during those times.

WHAT’S THE POLICY ON BRINGING IN OUTSIDE FOOD?

We’ll try our best to be accommodating.  We recognize that people will want to carry some snacks or small drinks into the pool in their bags.  We’re asking that those items be consumed in designated areas such as the concession patio, grass areas and pavilion, and not on the main deck lounging areas.  The facility strictly prohibits bringing in coolers and/or ordering food or drink deliveries from outside vendors.

IF OUR FAMILY HAS FOOD ALLERGIES, WILL WE BE ABLE TO PACK A LUNCH?

There will be restrictions on bringing in coolers and glass containers but snack items of a limited quantity will most likely be permitted.

WHAT’S THE COST TO RENT OUT THE PAVILION FOR BIRTHDAY PARTIES?

Rental pricing for the Flavorseal Pavilion (along with menu pricing) can be found by clicking HERE.
